It is important that all of the media products including the music video and the ancillary tasks link together so that one represents the other. Me and my group ensured that all of our media products link together so that they are all recognised as a package. It has been made clear that they all link together as the images used were from the locations that featured in our music video. Whilst we were filming our music video, we were aware that the ancillary tasks also needed to be completed therefore, we made sure that we took photos in each of the locations we filmed as well so that we were prepared for constructing our magazine advert and digipak as well as our music video. As a result of this, we had a lot of photos and footage to use when it came to constructing our media products.
How the music video links to the digipak
As I said we made sure that photos were taken at each location that we filmed at to ensure that the digipak would link to the music video no matter what image was sued. The majority of our music video was filmed at Southend on the beach and the pier, this is what had an influence on the images that were used. The design of the digipak features a variety of shots taken from this location for example, the front and back cover are photographs of the sea because we considered the conventions of our genre and it is rare that the artist features on the front of their media products. On the other hand, the inside cover uses the main image used which also features on our magazine advert and it is a photo of our artist with the sea in the background. Finally, on the other panels is one image spread across all three remaining panels, this image was taken from a long shot that has been used in our music video making this area of the digipak a very strong link to the music video. An artistic effect was applied to all of the images to give the digipak a washed out effect like we have attempted to do with areas of our music video as well which is another example of a link between our media products, this is also a convention of our genre.
How the magazine advert links to the music video
Our magazine advert challenges conventions of our genre as the artist in our music video features on the front of our ancillary task. The main reasoning for this is because it is one of the best photos that were taken from all of our locations when were out filming. The composition of the shot is nice and there is a good balance between the artist filling up the frame as well as the scenery around him. As well as this, it helps to make the link between our magazine advert and music video as it clearly shows the main location that was filmed in our music video, this is where we have made the main link between the two products. Like the digipak and music video, the image used on the magazine advert has an artistic effect applied to present the washed out look again which is commonly seen in our genre.
Link between digipak and magazine advert
Our two ancillary tasks complement each other very well as similar images have been used which shows the strong link between the two. Furthermore, the washed out effect has been applied to both of the products to represent the genre and music video. The typography used within our ancillary task are identical as we wanted the two to products to match therefore, the same font and layout of the artist name and album name are the same on both products. Moreover, we have included the record label and iTunes logo on both products as these are essential fro any magazine advert or digipak design, this gives the impression that are media products are professional and targeted towards the same artist/music video.
How has the link been made?
Overall, all of our media products link together well mainly because of the choice of images used in our ancillary tasks are appropriate and relevant to our music video. The location on the ancillary tasks are the same as the main location in the music video which we made sure of as we took the photographs at the same time that we was filming meaning that we prepared ourselves well when it came to the construction of all of media products and they will all have a string link between each other.
