The purpose of the Digipak & Magazine Advert

The purpose of a digipak is to promote an album and to list the content on the album such as the songs on the album which will usually be presented on the back cover or sometimes on the inside left of the digipak depending on the design. As well as this, it will also promote the artist and give the target market an idea of the genre and style of the artists if they do not know already.

It is important fro the the design of the digipak to be eye catching and appealing to the audience as well as relevant to the genre as its purpose is to make the CD/album stand out on the shelf. The image/art on the cover can be used to express the artist or can be used to tell a story maybe related to the album itself. A digipak can also store additional promotional material for example, the sleeves in the digipak could contain posters and other information/ extras about the album/ artist.

Another form of promotion for an album is a magazine advert, this will usually feature an image (usually the artist/band), artist name, album name, record label, release date etc. this is an alternate way an artist/band can promote itself or a new album. Once again, a magazine advert can also include images/colours in order to express the genre/style of the artist.

After finding out this information and looking at existing digipaks and magazine adverts, I can use this this to help me when designing our own products. I have analysed the purpose and importance of them in order to be successful and to promote the album/artist correctly.
